Structural Design Engineer
Role description
Job Description.
Role: Sr. Structural Design Engineer
Department/Function: Central Marketing Team/Engineering
Reports to: HEAD TATA Steel NEST-IN
Reported by: Jr. Structural design engineer, detailer ,Proposal drafts man and Modeler & Detailer.
Job Objective:
Ensure Pre and Post order Structural Design as per SLA
Return Approval Drawings from client as per SLA targets
Ensure quality of fabrication drawings, manufacturing & site execution QA as per Standards
Implement design development initiatives in-line with Tata Steel expectations.
Primary Responsibilities:
A). Pre-Order Work.
1) Understanding the requirement from the customer / Nest-In Sales Manager
2) Checking structural feasibility of the Project
3) Prepare basic/proposal drawings.
4) Provide relevant inputs to enable sales team to prepare cost estimate and technical offer, considering all value-added items of a building.
5) Value engineering and Customer Interaction (need based).
B). Post – Order Work.
1) Structural Design of the Building based on the final input/layout.
2) Structural Design calculation and drawing approval from customer/third-party consultant / IIT / Project and Engineering department of TATA STEEL LTD.
3) Developing & Checking final fabrication Drawings
4) Developing & Checking the assembly and erection Drawings
5) Inspection and quality checking of steel components.
6) Inspection and quality checking of steel structure execution at site.
Educational qualifications:
Minimum B. Tech or Equivalent in Civil Engineering.
M. Tech in Structural Engineering Preferred.
Chartered Engineer Preferred.
Recommended schools are: IITs / NITs / other highly-rated schools of a similar profile in India and outside India
Relevant experience:
Minimum 5 year prefab Light gauge steel Frame structure/ PEB/ Structural steel and modular steel structure (with Sheetmetal) structural design experience
Technical competencies:
Auto CAD, Staad,
Frame CAD/Pinnacle/LGSF software would be an added advantage.

Role description
Location :Â Multiple (Delhi/Chennai/Jamshedpur) after one year at Jamshedpur
Product Application Group (PAG), TG GWL (Long product division, TATA STEEL) is primarily aimed to enhance the brand image of TATA STEEL for all its long products. It was felt that the company’s long term business strategy must include the introduction of differentiated and tailor made products and solutions in the key market segments which will create entry barriers for competitors and hence the formation of PAG. The role of this job is to lead the team in fulfilling functionalities such as:
) Provide technical solutions to customers: Investigate, analyse and suggest modifications to maintain satisfactory end product performance and improved customer process efficiency. In case of rebars – it will include providing guidance to retail and project customers on optimal grade/ size selection, independent analysis and advice on structural designs, providing On-line/ At-site Ask-Expert answers, Develop expertise to offer new construction solutions (e.g. Cut and Bend, Rebar Mesh, Wire mesh).
b) Complaint management and resolution: Formulate, implement and improve complaint management system, Carry out failure investigations (including preliminary on-site investigation) and explain findings to customers, provide technical decisions on customer claims and communications, Conduct audits (stockyard, distributor/ dealer yard) to verify the suitability of offerings, Mapping customer’s process and competitor’s product performance/ Service, Carry out trials at customer’s end.
c) Product promotion: Conduct influencer’s meets to enable stake holders/ customers to take informed decisions on the application of the offered product (e.g. Ask Expert Camp, Steel-o-pedia, Wired2win, RAISE, Mitr etc).
d) New initiatives: To formulate, propose and implement new ideas to enhance application service and solutions.
e) Technical insight: Gather and disseminate technical intelligence on products and application services including handling and storage by compiling feedback, site audit related construction practices.
f) Imparting training and awareness: To enable Channel Partners (Distributor’s staff, Dealers, Masons) to address technical aspects of the Product and Service and create all round differentiation.
Skills
Proficient in Structural/ Civil Engg. Aspects, Knowledge of Concrete, Construction practices: IHB, BBS making, Ability to communicate/ deliver technical aspects.
Ability to network (academia, research institutions, builders, contractors); Polite; Persuasive; Articulate; Self motivated; Co-operative.
