INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Civil Engineer interview Question for Fresher 2024

1.       What is your experience with site planning and development?

Answer: As a civil site engineer, I have extensive experience in site planning and development, including identifying and analysing site features, assessing site suitability, and developing site plans that meet the project’s requirements. I am well-versed in using software tools like AutoCAD and Civil 3D to design site layouts, grading plans, and stormwater management systems.

2.       How do you ensure construction site safety?

Answer: Safety is a top priority on any construction site, and as a civil site engineer, I take this responsibility very seriously. I make sure that all workers are trained on safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times, and proper safety equipment is available on-site. I also conduct regular safety inspections to identify and address any potential hazards before they become a problem.

3.       What is your experience with project management?

Answer: As a civil site engineer, I have extensive experience in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. I have worked on several projects where I was responsible for managing timelines and ensuring that the project was completed on schedule and within budget. I am also skilled in using project management software like Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 to plan and track project progress.

4.       How do you manage conflicts on construction sites?

Answer: Conflicts on construction sites can arise due to differences in opinion, misunderstanding, or miscommunication. As a civil site engineer, I believe in addressing conflicts head-on and finding a solution that works for everyone involved. I typically take a collaborative approach and involve all parties in the conflict resolution process. I also make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of the issue and that all communication is respectful and professional.

5.What is a Shear Slump?

⇒ Shear slump means that the concrete mix is lacking in cohesion.

Consequently, it may experience segregation and bleeding and thus is avoided for the durability of concrete.

6. Why is concrete weak in tension?

⇒ Concrete is produced up of a collection of materials (many aggregate types, cement, pozzolans, water, air…), which are attached together with a cement paste.

The “interface” zone is the most vulnerable link in the structure.

When compressing, that interface only helps to share compressive stresses from one aggregate to the following. That does not need extraordinary strength.

Under tension, the aggregates are attempting to pull out from each other, and the glue is what keeps the whole system jointly.

Since it is extremely weaker than the aggregates, it is where the failure begins at much lower stresses.

7. What is Grouting?

⇒ Grout may be defined as a fluid form of concrete that is employed to seal voids.

8. What is the recommended slump for the column?

⇒ 75 to 125 mm

9. The bearing capacity of granite is generally?

⇒ 30 to 35 kg/cm2

10. What are the specifications of the tamping rod employed in cube filling for the cube test?

⇒ According to the IS code 2386, a 16 mm steel rod with a rounded edge.
