Determination of Best Soil zone for House Construction

The bearing capacity of soil is defined as the capacity of the soil to bear the loads coming from the foundation . The pressure which the soil can easily withstand against load is called allowable bearing pressure. The Zone 4 of soil have good bearing capacity and also good for construction of house

soil is everywhere, all structures are also built on soil. Selection of sites with the best soil is an important engineering decision in the building process. Soil maps are a great tool to help engineers determine the best location for their design.

Zone of Soil

Zone 6 :

(A) Top Soil

(B) Black Cotton soil

(C) Disturbed Soil

Zone 5 :

Fine to coarse Gravel sized rock fragments completely weathered with extremely closely (6-20 mm) to very closely (20 -60 mm) spaced fractures in filled with completely 20% to 50% of the mass .Rock Structure is just visible behave as soil

Zone 4:

Gravel and cobble size fragment of highly to completely weather interlocking rock fragments. Very close ( 20 -60 mm) fractures are in filled with completely disintegrated material. Rock comprises 50% to 80% of the mass .Original rock structure visible. Behaves as weak rock

NOTE : This Zone is mainly for Every house Foundation

Zone 3:

Highly to moderately weathered rock mass with closely (60 -200 mm ) spaced fractures in filled with up to 20 % completely disintegrated material.rock is brown with structure clear. Behaves as rock with reduction of strength and much micro fracturing if rock fragments

Zone 2 :

Moderately weathered rock mass with close (60 -200 mm ) to medium (200 -600 mm ) spaced fractures with up to 5% disintegrated material in fractures. Rock is discolored to brown and occasionally micro fractured but with little loss in strength

Zone 1 :

Fresh to slightly weathered rock with > medium spaced (>200 mm )joints. Rock is green or blue grey but may be discolored to brown along joint Surface with occasional main joints in filled. Otherwise the rock has clean joints.Rock exhibits full Strength
